Board of Education Honors Track & Field Athletes at June Meeting
During Monday's regular monthly meeting, the CUSD 10 Board of Education recognized a top-ranked Collinsville High School track and field athlete, and our Collinsville Middle School IESA 2026 Class 4A State Track and Field medalists.
CHS Discus and Shot Put Athlete Shane Box
Shane Box was accompanied by Coach Chad Burgess and introduced by Athletic Director Clay Smith.Smith said Box had an extraordinary high school career marked by excellence in athletics, leadership and academics.
"Shane's journey as a Kahok thrower is one of the most impressive in school history. As a freshman, he threw 37 feet, 8¾ inches in the shot put and 143 feet, 8 inches in the discus.
Shane finishes his career ranked second all-time in Collinsville High School history in the shot put with a throw of 61 feet, 1½ inches and first all-time in the discus with a school-record throw of 191 feet, 6 inches. His discus record stands as the best throw ever recorded by a Kahok athlete.
As a junior, Shane won the IHSA Sectional Championship in the discus and qualified for the IHSA State Finals. As a senior, he elevated his performance even further, winning the IHSA Sectional Championship in the shot put, finishing second in the discus, and advancing to the IHSA Class 3A State Finals in both events. At the state meet, he placed 11th in the shot put and earned All-State honors with a runner-up finish in the discus, establishing himself as one of the top throwers in Illinois.
Next year, Shane will continue both his academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where he has earned a full-tuition athletic scholarship and will compete at the NCAA Division I level in track and field."
