CHS Latin Earns First Place Overall at Illinois Junior Classical League South Convention
Last weekend, Collinsville High School Latin students attended the Illinois Junior Classical League South Convention at the University of Illinois' Laboratory High School in Urbana. CHS placed FIRST PLACE OVERALL at the convention.
This is second time CHS earned first place at the event since Latin teacher James Stark took over the program in Fall of 2015. He says this was the program's most impressive showing.
The students competed in various events and participated in activities including a tour of the UIUC campus and lectures on ancient textile archaeology. Board Members Aubrie "Avanius" Dietrich and Mia "Octavia" Harris both organized the program and events. Lily "Rhea Silvia" Berg and Johnna "Cupida" Smith were elected to the 2026 board.
Students earned a total of 39 individual academic and artistic awards and 7 trophies, a new record in part due to record attendance of 36 students. CHS placed first in academic testing, first in graphic arts and first in Olympics.
Stark thanked CHS Alumni Madeline Eversmann, Julia Eversmann, and Isabelle Perez for volunteering their time to assist with things for the day.
