Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 is committed to the health and safety of our students, staff and their families. Our 2020-21 Return to Learning Plan has been developed with that in mind.
While our plan specifies guidelines for our staff, students and buildings to follow, everyone’s health and safety is dependent on each individual. To review the complete Wellness Plan for Return to Learning in the 2020-21 school year, see the district’s full Return to Learning document: English OR Spanish. Health Certification Checklist
Daily Student Checklist (English & Spanish)
Parents are required to complete the COVID-19 Daily Student Checklist for their child(ren) each day before sending their child(ren) to school. An agreement for Daily Student Health Screening (by the parent/guardian) was part of the Online Registration process completed by the parent/guardian. At that time, parents electronically agreed they will certify their child(ren)’s health each morning prior to sending them to the bus/school.
Parents should use the checklist each morning to monitor their child(ren)’s health status – there is no obligation to send or submit the checklist each day. An answer of “yes” to a question on the checklist means the child cannot attend school.
Staff are required to complete a Daily Staff Checklist each day before reporting to their building. Visitors to schools will be asked to self-certify their health before being allowed to enter a district facility.

COVID-19 Training for Students
Physical Distancing
CUSD #10 students and staff are expected to maintain physical distancing to the greatest extent possible keeping in mind the recommendation of 6 feet apart throughout the school day. Signage reminding staff, visitors and students to maintain physical distancing is placed at all entrances, in classrooms and throughout other common areas.
Face Coverings
CUSD #10 understands that physical distancing will not be possible for all circumstances. Students and staff are required to properly wear masks. A student’s refusal or repeated failure to wear a face covering will result in the student being placed on 100% Remote Learning. Please note: Some public health studies have determined a “gator” style face scarf is NOT as effective as a mask. Students and staff will not be permitted to wear a gator unless a mask is worn beneath it.
Hand Hygiene
Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing is key to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Students and staff will be instructed in the proper hand-washing technique. Everyone must avoid touching their mouth, eyes or nose as much as possible. Staff and students are required to use hand sanitizer upon entering the classroom each time. Hand sanitizer is provided by the District. Each building has signage reminding everyone of the need for proper hand hygiene.
2020-21 Health Guidance for Back-to-School
August 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As your district Lead School Nurse and cooperating health staff, we feel it is important to give you some information and guidance regarding return to school procedures. You will soon be receiving information on CUSD#10 Return to School Procedures from the District Administration and your building Principals. However, there are some specifics from the health office that are important to share. Please read the following information carefully.
The Illinois Department of Public Health has stated it is now safe to reopen our schools. However, as schools begin to return to in-person learning, there are guidelines our staff and students must follow to keep our community safe and healthy. Prevention of illnesses and the containment of the COVID-19 virus is very important to CUSD#10. We need your help to keep our school as healthy as possible to prevent further school closures.
Since viruses spread person to person, please keep your child(ren) home if they are sick. Sick day guidelines are as follows:
-
- Temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- COVID-19 symptoms: Fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, chills, fatigue, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
- If COVID-19 symptoms, but NOT tested: Must remain home for 24 hours from date of resolution of fever without fever reducing medications, symptoms have improved, AND 10 days have passed since first symptoms appeared. Doctor note RECOMMENDED for return to school.
- If tested positive form COVID-19, above criteria for discontinuation of home isolation/returning to school applies. Two negative test results at least 24 hours aparts. School personnel MUST be notified for contact tracing. Doctor note REQUIRED for return to school
- Exposure to a person who tested positive for COVID-19 (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) requires a 14 day absence and monitoring at home for symptoms; and NOTIFICATION of school personnel for contact tracing.
- Active vomiting and diarrhea
- First 24 hours of various antibiotic treatment: strep throat, pink eye, staph, etc.
- Undiagnosed, new, and/or untreated rash
Medically fragile or immunocompromised students are highly encouraged to consult their medical provider for clearance to return to in person learning. Provide documentation for plan of care to school nurse/principal.
Any students presenting to the health office with the above symptoms will be placed in supervised isolation within the building and parents will be called to pick up the child. Students with fever and respiratory symptoms will be required to wear a face covering/mask in this location until picked up from school. Be vigilant about keeping your EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS up to date. We MUST be able to contact parent/guardian/emergency contact to have sick child(ren) picked up immediately from the isolation area. Students returning to school after an illness will be checked in by the school nurse/principal to verify resolution of symptoms and criteria for discontinuation of quarantine have been met. The most efficient way to do this is to obtain a DOCTOR’S NOTE clearing the return to school.
Students and/or parents/guardians of students will be required to self report recent fever, COVID-19 symptoms, or any recent exposure to a person with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 DAILY. Temperature and symptom screening may also be conducted by school personnel. Face coverings/masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors while in the school buildings. Visitors will have limited access to the buildings. A medical provider note is required for students and staff who are unable to wear face coverings due to breathing illnesses.
If your child becomes ill, here are some tips:
- Rest as much as possible. Stay hydrated.
- For fever, sore throat, muscle aches: use Ibuprofen (Motrin) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed
- Keep tissues and a trash can within reach of the sick person.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and discard tissue properly. If no tissue is available, cough or sneeze into the bend of your elbow.
- Everyone in the household should wash hands frequently using soap and water. If unable, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as much as possible and/or wash hands after touching.
- Keep the sick child away from healthy household members (confine sick person to their bedroom or designated area)
- Use paper towels in the household instead of a community towel to dry hands and discard after use.
Please begin talking to your child(ren) NOW about face coverings/masks. Practice wearing them at home and in public places. You MUST have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and SET A GOOD EXAMPLE about face coverings/masks for this to be successful. Face coverings/masks must be replaced or laundered frequently. Students and staff will be learning about proper handwashing, the proper technique for applying and removing face covering, and social distancing. It is also important that students stay hydrated at school. It is recommended that you send a clean refillable water bottle labeled with your child’s name to school every day. Community water fountains will not be in service, but bottle filling stations/sinks will be available.
Grade level HEALTH REQUIREMENTS are still mandated. Your child must have the required physical, immunizations, dental exam, and eye exam as required per their grade level by October 15 or be subject to exclusion from school. Sports physicals are still required prior to any conditioning, practice, or game. Please note that students who have immunization exemptions may be at risk. Contact your child’s physician NOW to make an appointment.
If your child will require MEDICATION at school, you must have the district permission to administer medication form completed and signed by the physician and parent. ALL medication to be given at school will require this completed form and must come in the pharmacy labeled bottle (prescription) or a new unopened bottle/package (over the counter). Students with Asthma, be advised that the recommendation is for nebulizer treatments to be given at home. ALL asthma students requiring an inhaler at school MUST have an aerochamber and an ASTHMA ACTION PLAN completed by the physician.
It is our goal to keep our students safe and healthy while attending school. It will take your cooperation for this to be successful. We are prepared and will continue to monitor local and state trends. Please don’t hesitate to call or email your school nurse with questions or concerns.
