Dorris Intermediate School houses approximately 900 fifth and sixth grade students that come from eight feeder elementary schools throughout the district. The intermediate school, as it is, opened its doors in 2004 in the existing middle school taking the 5th and 6th graders out of the elementary buildings. There are about 50 teachers and 30 support staff members that work with students at DIS.

The curriculum at DIS emphasizes math, reading and writing. Science and social studies units focus on the state standards and reinforce language arts and mathematics. Special programs include Title I, speech, band, chorus and intramural activities. All students participate in physical education, music and keyboarding. The DIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is very active and sponsors a variety of educationally centered community nights throughout the year including an International Night, Science Fair, Scholastic Book Fair and Family Reading Night as well as social activities such as skating parties and dances.

For more information about specific goals, please see the School Report Card or School Improvement Plan.
