Congressman John Shimkus serve as “Principal for a Day” at Collinsville High School on Thursday, November 29, 2007 from 9:45 am until 11:30 am.

Congressman Shimkus served as “Principal for a Day” to recognize the contributions principals make to schools in the Collinsville Unit School District #10 and throughout Illinois.

Congressman Shimkus performed a variety of tasks that both the CHS principal and assistant principals perform on a daily basis. Some of the tasks included conferring with the school newspaper, participating in a school recycling initiative, interacting with pupils in the Collinsville Area Vocational Center, as well as a host of other activities.

This “Principal for a Day” initiative is part of a state-wide program launched by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA). The administration of CHS tailored the activities of this program (click on link above) to minimize a myriad of administrative duties and to fit the time schedule of the congressman.
