Scott Hassle, an IBEW representative, with George Boddie and Eduardo Oseguera, students in the Collinsville Area Vocational Center.

The vocational center sponsors a club called Skills USA which competes at the state and national level and this year two students from the CP Electronics class, taught by Kathleen Hankins, placed first at the state competition. George Boddie placed first in the electronics technology competition. The winner of this competition is offered a full tuition paid scholarship to DeVry University in Chicago and a chance to compete at the national level. Eduardo Oseguera won first place, completing the house wiring in the competition Team Works. Both students are moving on to compete at the national level in June with the help of the IBEW local unit 309.

The IBEW, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, gave Boddie and Oseguera a scholarship fund of $700 to cover the national trip expenses. Both Boddie and Oseguera are Collinsville seniors who are graduating and plan to study in the electronics field.
