CHS Students Visit Callaway Nuclear Plant |
Students from Kathy Hankins Intro. to Electronics and CP Electronics classes visited the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant on a field trip. They were the first high school class to tour the plant in over 10 years because of increased security. Ms. Hanksin worked there in 1985 and has been very persistent in trying to get her students in for a tour. The facility has reopened to colleges but since she had been asking for the past eight years, they finally relented! Each student had to have a security check ran on them one month prior to the visit and had to walk through a metal and bomb detector (which goes off even if you walk through a field and the farmer is fertilizing...the workers sometimes have to go home and take a shower and change clothes!) and then through a retina scan! What a wonderful opportunity for our highschool students. To see more photos:
