ISAT Testing - Tips for Parents
CUSD10 ISAT Testing will take place February 25 - March 7, 2008

Physical Preparation

Offer praise and encouragement!  Tell your child that you believe he/she can do well and succeed!
Insure that your child gets plenty of rest each night before testing.

Feed your child a nourishing breakfast on the mornings of the test.

Insure that your child arrives to school on time.
Avoid medical and dental appointments on testing days.
Insure your child has any necessary supplies for testing such as pencils.
Listen to your child's anxieties and concerns.  Reassure him/her and limit your own anxiety about your child's upcoming testing.

Test Taking Strategies to Share with Your Child

Relax and stay calm before and during tests.

Read all directions CAREFULLY.  Reread any directions that are not clear the first time.

Review all answers CAREFULLY.

Make sure marks are recorded correctly on the answer sheet.

Complete easy questions first; come back to difficult questions.

Budget enough time to answer as many questions as possible.

Eliminate the obvious wrong answers on difficult questions to limit the number of answers left to choose from.

Tackle one question at a time; do not focus on the entire test as a whole.

Recheck answers if time remains.

What is ISAT Testing?
"
The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards. The results give parents, teachers, and schools one measure of student learning and school performance."
