Dear Students and Parents,                            December 5, 2008

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope that you are getting all of your shopping completed and not waiting until the last minute like some…ok…like me! Haaa J

I am writing to you about something that has influenced one of my students to step-up and ask for help during the holiday season.  Jordyn Yoder, who is new to the district, and her family donate their time at a homeless shelter in St. Louis (throughout the year). Her siblings donate time to help others through SIUE and local shelters. As Christmas is approaching, Jordyn’s family will be attending a shelter to help with crafts and card making. Jordyn thought it would be a neat idea if we could get together some items to take on their visit.

We discussed the idea with the classroom, and all of the students were really interested in how they could reach out to those that are less fortunate than us! We have decided that we are going to try to collect as many items as possible to give to Jordyn’s family when they go to the shelter.

After talking to Joanna Luehmann, she has donated items that were left from last year’s lost and found and thought our idea was a great way to show how much we care. To help others that are less fortunate, I am asking that we all step-up so that we can help others have a nice holiday.

Items will be donated to Gateway Homeless Shelter in downtown St. Louis. Since they are going on Saturday, December 13th, I am asking that ALL items be here by Friday, December 12th. That does not give us much time to donate as much as possible.

Items might include (new or used), hats, gloves, scarves, coloring books, crayons, soap, toys, board games, etc.

I was extremely impressed with the way the kids wanted to step-up and help out!

Thank you all and Merry Christmas,
